i am chris brown…for now

Hmmmm….

“There’s this sign outside a baker’s shop advertising bread for one dollar a loaf. You go into the shop hungry for bread and imagining the fresh smell of bread right out of the oven, only to find that inside the shop all that is for sale are copies of the sign advertising bread. The church has been too much like the shop.”

Twitterin

I twitter.  Didn’t think I’d like it, but I do.  Love it.  And I love seeing what others are up to.  Not only do I keep up with friends from long ago, but I get to follow Michael Bay as he twitters about having just blown up 2 million pigeons, or makes fun of Shia Labeouf.  I ask you, what could be better?

Come Follow Me.

Ta-Da!

After a brief hiatus from blogging, I’ve returned. And I’m back just in time to ring in the start of my favorite month – October. The season’s changing along with colors and flavors of lattes. Leaves are falling. New wardrobes are coming out. And it’s the start of a 90 day period to follow that’s full of seasonal madefortvmovies that bring out the kid in me every year.

How could you not love October? It’s the most pivotal month of the year, laced with candy corn + jack-o’-lanterns + wax vampire teeth + timeless Frankenstein costumes, all culminating in $5.1 billion in retail spending (ok, there may be a slight problem there).

Nonetheless, here’s a few extra goodies you should be aware of this October….

-10th Anniversary of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (aka the fall of Napster).
-2008 Nobel Prize Announcements. A few really important people whom we’ve probably never heard of but whose work is changing our lives will be honored.
Flash of Genius hits theaters on the 17th. Greg Kinnear stars in the most boring movie of the year. (But far be it from me to deter you from spending $10 to watch the story of the guy who created intermittent windshield wipers).
-Daniel Radcliffe on the cover of Details mag. Harry, my how you’ve grown.

Breakfast Bunch

Thursday mornings I eat a mighty early breakfast with a few guys. We talk about life, our wives, and why God made cheese squares and bears.

We love Jonathan’s. We even tried to change it up one time and go to a different restaurant, only to discover it was the biggest mistake we’d ever make. It could be the variety of food served there (which seems to be common theme in Charlotte eateries). It could be the clip-art signs (sometimes misspelled) on the front door, showcasing the variety of breakfast, Italian, Greek, cherry pie, and wine and beer that is served there.

…It could be the ducks or the peacock that surround this restaurant located just off I-485.

Or the eery feeling we get when we regularly watch an individual walk through the parking lot directly into the tall forest brush and disappear (not unlike this , this, or this).

Whatever it is, we feel apart of Jonathan’s. It feels like home. They know our names. They know what we like to eat and drink. Suzie even has a nickname for one of us…Casper. We don’t know why she calls him Casper…we’ve never bothered to ask, it just works for her, so it works for us.

Here’s to Jonathan’s. Cheers.

Oh The Medicine

Thought I’d follow up to Mack’s post re: John Mark’s new record, The Medicine. I’ve been wearing out his previous record since the release show a few weekends back, and now I’ve moved on to The Medicine, which has all the potential to bring John Mark the attention and respect he deserves as a songwriter. It’s good ole fashion american rock and roll with some folk lullabies tossed in the mix that bring tears. Order it now. Or be the typical 21st-century-human and wait for it to come out on Itunes, but just get it. You won’t regret it.

…And here’s a [poor] picture from the release show (taken via phone).

Boo-yah

After 21 days of fruits and vegetables, we threw down on some meat and cheese topped off by chocolate a la mode tonight…and will continue to do so throughout the week. Oh, the satisfaction that comes with a bacon double cheeseburger.

And I can’t really understand how the same guy who owns this site, can eat his weight in greasy beef, smothered with 3 layers of cheese and mayonnaise, washed down with red velvet cake, but somehow it works for him.

Sleepytown

So Beth and I just got back from getting a couples massage. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night. Beth needed it more than me with her new work schedule….I just had to go along for support. Now, to bed.
